Lip scrubs mainly contain two components: emollient and exfoliant. Emollient provides a hydrating base for exfoliant, which makes it easier to apply the product on the lips. Emollients in lip peels are usually light butters or oils, such as jojoba oil, coconut oil or shea butter. The exfoliant in most lip peels is sugar. Sugar is gentle on soft lip skin, but still effective in exfoliating chapped skin. Emollient and exfoliating work together to hydrate and smooth the lips.

Lip peeling is necessary to keep your lips healthy and hydrated. Your lips, just like your face, have a lipid layer: a protective layer that maintains moisture balance.

When your lips are dry and chapped, that layer of lipids becomes unbalanced, posing a problem. The skin peels and crumbles, enticing you to tear it off and peel it. Lip scrub is a key element in removing chapped, dead skin and helps the lip balm to penetrate and balance that lipid layer. Even if you don’t usually wear makeup, who doesn’t want soft, healthy, perfectly smooth lips?

Excessive dead skin and dry lips can also cause premature aging. If you want a youthful look, you need healthy and youthful lips. Effective hydration after a good lip peel is the best form of anti-aging lip care.
